Leonard Adleman (born the December 31st 1945), researcher in theoretical data processing and Data-processing professor in and Molecular biology with the the University of California of the South. Co-inventor of the Cryptosystème RSA (Rivest, Shamir, Adleman) in 1977, Adleman also worked in the Bio-data processing.
Born in California, Adleman grows with San Francisco and studies with the university of Berkeley. It takes down a doctorate in 1976. In 1994, its article Molecular Computation off Solutions To Combinatorial Problems describes the experimental use of DNA in the computing systems. It gives like example a problem of optimization of a Hamiltonian graph with 7 nodes, a problem similar to the sales representative. Even if the solution is known for a long time, it is the first time that one shows that the DNA can carry out complex calculations.
For its contribution in cryptography with the RSA, Adleman received in 2002 with Ron Rivest and Adi Shamir ACM Turing Award , the equivalent of the Nobel Prize in data processing. One also allots to Adleman the term of Computer virus (Fred Cohen, Experiments with Computer Viruses , 1984).
Adleman also officiated as consultant in mathematics for the Sneakers film. It has three girls Jennifer (born in 1980), Stephanie (born in 1984) and Lindsey (born in 1987).
