Citroen Jumper - FIAT Ducato II - Peugeot Boxer

Collaboration between the manufacturers FIAT and Citroen initially, PSA then goes up very far. Each of both on the matter had already a great experiment, FIAT since 1910 with the series 612-614 then 616 and 615, then FIAT 1100 T and famous FIAT 238 born into 1967 which will be manufactured until 1983! FIAT 242, model heavier of the range, was already the fruit of a collaboration with Citroen which distributed it in France under the C35 label.

First generation

It is into 1978 that FIAT and PSA links their forces in the field and creates a new entity: SEVEL Southern - Società Europea Veicoli Leggeri - European Company of Light vehicles - in Atessa in the Valley of Sangro in the center of the Italy with dimensions the Adriatic.

This company, directed by FIAT Car, will present in 1981 the first fruit of this collaboration: FIAT Ducato and will manufacture it at a rate of 350 vehicles per day. After a first generation of the FIAT Ducato (and Talento reserved in Italy) and Citroen C25, FIAT and PSA decided to continue their co-operation and to widen their common range which did not comprise less than 500 alternatives of these functional models multi.

Second generation

In 1994 the second generation is presented with the same improved mechanical base but especially a less angular body. It obtains the title " Van off the Year". It is starting from this new generation that the FIAT Ducato will be finally also distributed in France.

The FIAT Ducato II - Citroen Jumper - Peugeot Boxer are commercial models of vehicles - vans and frame cabins - they are used as a basis favorite for the vehicles of camp-site. They are produced by southern Sevel with Val di Sangro since 1981. December 15th, 2005, the course of the 3 million vehicles was crossed, the production pace passed to 900 vehicles by day.

They differ only by some elements from body (fires, shields…) and of the details of interior equipment. At the beginning the diesel engine and turbo diesel 2,5 L of FIAT ensures more success to him. Besides this engine will equip most of models PSA.

In 1997, motorization FIAT passes to the 2.8 liters of 127 ch. Les footings proposed are of 2,85 m, 3,20 m and 3,70 Mr. the elevated house and the camera of retreat are in option. The versions Panorama and Compound are born in range FIAT.

In 2002, light a restyling profits with all the range which enriched, at FIAT, of motorizations Bi-power, i.e. gasoline and natural gas, but so electric. Diesel FIAT 2,8 Unijet passes to 146 ch.

This same year the two manufacturers decided to prolong their profitable collaboration until 2017.

The FIAT Ducato is also manufactured with the Brésil since 2002 and in Russia since 2007.

Third generation

FIAT and PSA presented the May 11th 2006 the third generation of these vehicles answering the X250 code.

Models FIAT receive diesel engines, in conformity with the standard EURO IV and the future standard EURO V 5, of 2,3 and 3,0 liters of cubic capacity. These engines, which are among most reliable of the market, equip also certain models PSA.

On the other hand, the models of PSA will receive in complement the new diesel engine of 2,2l conceived by PSA with Ford.

Production

Unchallenged leaders on the European market, the two manufacturers decided to increase by 30% the capacity of the factory of Valley di Sangro, in Italy, where the vehicles are produced, to pass from a potential of 200 000 units with 260 000 vehicles as from 2007.

The distribution is done to approximately 60% for FIAT and 40% for PSA.
