Cimbres
The Cimbres (Latin: Cimbri ) could come from the Jutland in the current Denmark according to Pline old the. It is estimated that they were from 60.000 to 80.000 and that they would come from hundreds of villages dispersed in the coasts of Northern Europe. If their origins are prone to polemic, one could suppose them Celtes like the Ambrons, as well as the Teutons, just like one could qualify them German ; it is however an extreme simplification of their ethnogenèse.
- the Himmerland, could be their area of origin; however that does not correspond to the description of their area of origin made by the Roman authors.
- Their name also approaches the Germain Kimme , who means " the rivage" , " the bord". However, the rules of change of the Germanic languages invalidate this assumption.
- the sacrifice of many women at the time of their defeat vis-a-vis Rome in -102 points out the Germanic sacrifice of the Blót and the Femme of Haraldskær.
- the franque tradition indicates like original tribe, a tribe called Sicambri , a group originating in the Danube.
- Their king, during their tribulations, took the name of Boiorix, a Celtic name.
- the tradition of several German or Celtic people, gives them for ancestor of the Cimmériens or the Scythes. Several names of tribes come to support this thesis ( Cymru , Cwmry or Cumbria in the north of England). Etymology of " Cymru" , according to a Welsh tradition, could come from Cimmériens. It is possible that a Thraco-Cimmérienne population migrated during the Bronze Age. In the contrary case it would be a generic name of Celtic tribe.
Perhaps also they have mixed origins, or are the German ones celtized.

The disappearance of Cimbres
After 7 years of tribulations, Teutons and Ambrons separate from Cimbres; Marius and the Romans will overcome them at the time of the Bataille of Vercellae in -102.
In 101 av. J. - C., the 65.000 Cimbres warriors arrive to Italy and find vis-a-vis 10 Roman legions directed by Marius, the winner of Teutons. The troops cimbres are decimated, their king Boiorix dies there; according to the rumor the last survivors (women and children included) commit suicide rather than to become slaves
