Cibo Matto
Cibo Matto is a duet of New Yorkean musicians of origin Japan ease, Miho Hatori (song) and Yuka Honda (keyboards, sampler). The name of Cibo Matto (to pronounce chi-bo motor bike ) means insane food and comes from an Italian erotic comedy of the Années 1970, Sesso Matto (“sexual madness”)
First of all punks, in the group Leitoh Lychee , Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda, which had met in New York although originating in the same suburbs of Tokyo, creates Cibo Matto in 1994. Their music is eclectic and cosmopolitan, sometimes pop, sometimes funk, salsa, easy-listening, electro, rock'n'roll, etc Their universe made of frequent winks to their common passion: food.
In 1997, Cibo Matto will make an appearance in the first episode of the second season of the series Buffy against the vampires, by interpreting the songs Spoon and Sugar Water on the scene of the fictitious club of the town of Sunnydale, Bronze .
The group separated in 2001. Yuka Honda left two albums in solo and collaborates with musicians as various as Petra Haden, Luscious Jackson, Caetano Veloso, Dave Douglas, Susie Ibarra, Trevor Dunn and John Zorn. On its side, Miho Hatori forms Smokey & Miho (Worked-nova) with the guitarist Smokey Hormel.
