Ciampino

Ciampino is a Italian city of the Province of Rome in the area Latium in Italy.

History

Ciampino was a frazione of Marino until in 1974 where it obtained the statute of common . It obtained the statute of quoted since 2004 per order in Council and is now known under the name of Città di Ciampino .

The city was named according to Giovanni Giustino Ciampini, at the same time a monk, a scientist and an archeologist who lived at this place at the 17th century.

Demography

Initially a small town, Ciampino saw its population growth accelerating there is little, of 5000 inhabitants in 1951 with 28.000 in 1971. Today, the city counts approximately 37.000 inhabitants.

Transport

Ciampino is known for its known local airport under the name of International airport Giovan Battista Pastine, or Rome Ciampino (code AITA: the CIA). It is a military airport which accommodates many civil flights, especially companies at low prices like Ryanair.
