Church Saint-Leon (Paris)
Saint-Leon is a parish church located in the 15th district of Paris, place of the Cardinal Leon Amette. It bears the name of the pope holy Leon Large the, in memory of Leon Thélier, husband of the donor who allowed the erection of the church, and of her son, the Reverend Père Thélier, Jesuit, died for France.
History
The first stone was posed on October 21st, 1924 by the cardinal Louis Dubois, archbishop of Paris. The three naves built by Mgr Louis Fillon were blessed on May 11th, 1926. The apse was inaugurated on October 28th, 1930. January 22nd, 1933, the cardinal Jean Verdier, archbishop of Paris, blesses the frontage and the bell-tower and baptized the five bells.
Structure
The church was drawn by Emile Brunet. It is built out of covered brick concrete. The decoration of inspiration Art déco (stained glasses, mosaics, sculptures, ironwork) is characteristic of the years 1930 and 1940. The High altar and the Chaire were unfortunately lost. The church has a Orgue of 30 plays.
