Christmas tree of Rockefeller Center

The Christmas tree of Rockefeller Center is one of the most famous Christmas trees of the the United States. It is set up each year at the end of November on the esplanade of the Rockefeller Center of New York. The setting in light is retransmise besides on the chain NBC, of which the seat is located in the GE Building, highest Gratte-ciel of the complex . The tree chosen, often a spruce measurement on average enters 23 and 27 meters, and became a true symbol of the city in period of Christmas since the first time that it was installed, in 1937.

The research of the tree is done thanks to a helicopter, which scans the drills in the states of the Connecticut, of the Vermont, of the Ohio, like in the area of Ottawa, with the Canada. Once a suitable tree is located, a crane is used to support it while it is cut. The fir tree is then transported thanks to a telescopic heavy truck, which can transport trees a maximum height of 38 meters.

Once exposed on the site of the Rockefeller Center, the tree is supported by four wire ropes, attached to its central point, whereas its base is in Acier. To set up the 30  000 illuminations of the fir tree, and the eight kilometers of electric cables, a scaffolding is each year assembled around the tree. The current star which decorates the top of the fir tree since 2004 2,9 meters is high, and weighs 250 kilos.

Once the festivals of end of the year passed, the tree is recycled, and used in several fields, in particular to make Paillis, but also to manufacture the Haie S of the United States Equestrian TEAM (equestrian team of the the United States).
