Christian Chesnot
Christian Chesnot is a Journaliste French working for Radio France, Radio France international and Tribune de Genève .
Formation, career
He is graduate Training center of the journalists (CFJ, promotion 1989).
At the end of the Years 1980, Christian Chesnot was co-operating national service in Egypt for the French-speaking daily Egyptian Progress . It remains then with the Cairo as correspondent of several French newspapers.
Taking of hostage
He was removed in Iraq the August 20th 2004 by the Islamic army in Iraq in company of his fellow-member Georges Malbrunot and of their Syrian driver Mohamed Al-Joundi. The kidnappers launched an ultimatum to the French government: to cancel the Law on secularity in the 48 hours, in exchange from what Christian and Georges Malbrunot would be released. A great number of people were mobilized at the time of their catch in Otage, often organized by Reporters without borders. Each day, of the messages of recall were diffused on France Inter, read by known personalities.
After 124 days of detention, Christian Chesnot and Georges Malbrunot were released the December 21st 2004.
According to an article of the Times appeared on its Internet site the May 22nd 2006, France would have poured 15 million dollars (11,8 million euros) for its release like that of its fellow-member Georges Malbrunot. The French government maintains its denial on the payment of any ransom.
