Chris Claremont is an author of cartoons born in 1950 in England. It is of American nationality. It is famous in the world of the Comic S for its sixteen years (1976 - 1991) last on the adventures of the X-Men. It indeed largely contributed to the transformation of this series into a popular and lucrative frankness for Marvel Comics.

Scenario writer of comics

At the beginning, Chris Claremont wanted to be an actor and its stories of comics were only used to finance its career of artist and to pay his rent. The saga of Galactus by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby ( Fantastic Furnace 48-50) gave him the love at first sight for the Marvel publications. Its older publication is the X-Men n°59 of August 1969 when it suggests the end of the scenario, where Cyclops sends the sentinels towards the sun, source of the changes.

For its beginnings of scenario writer of comics at Marvel (after a few years to be worked as trainee, to write the letters to the Editor, and to suggest some ideas with authors such as Roy Thomas or Len Wein, Chris Claremont is seen entrusting all kinds of collaborations, of which the series Iron Fist in 1974. Although he does not manage to save it commercial failure, it is the occasion for him to work for the first time with the draftsman John Byrne. Len Wein, of which he is the assistant, then proposes to him in 1976 to work with him on the writing of the new series devoted to the X-Men. Chris Claremont does not appear with the scenario of Giant Size 1 which started again the series of X-Men but it suggested the end of the history, namely the way in which X-Men get rid of Krakoa. Thereafter Lein Wein did not have time to deal with the X-Men series because he had seen himself entrusting the scenarios of best the Marvel sales. He gave his place to Chris Claremont.

The author embarks in fact in an adventure which lasts sixteen years. He only writes or in collaboration stories considered now as the traditional ones (" god creates, the man détruit" , the saga of the Black Phoenix, “Days off Future Past”…). It takes part with the successive draftsmen in the creation of many characters: Malicia, Spark, Teeth of saber, Mystical, Emma Frost, Rachel Summers, Dazzler, Sinister or Captain Britain. It also takes part in launchings of series derived from X-Men: New Mutants , Excalibur or Wolverine .

Mainly known for the universe of the X-Men, Chris Claremont however delivered many scenarios for Marvel series such as Iron Fist , Power Man & Iron-Fist , Marvel TEAM-Up , Miss Marvel , Spider-Woman … the majority of its services met at the time a success as well criticizes as public. He is pleased to have worked with the person in charge of publication Louise Simonson and with the artists Dave Cockrum and John Byrne. In 1991, Chris Claremont leaves Marvel, following tensions with the editor of titles X, Bob Harras. it moves then towards the independent ones: he writes episodes of WildC.A.T.S and Cyberforce at Image Comics, and of Aliens vs Predator at Dark Horse, and launches the series Sovereign Seven at cd. Comics or he also scénarisé Star Trek Debt off Honor .

It is only in 1997 that it turns over to Marvel to take again the adventures of the Fantastic Four , but also of the X-Men . In 2005, it always works on this series, like Excalibur .

Other works

Out of the world of the comics, Claremont has off Co-writing with George Lucas the trilogy Chronicles the Shadow War made up of Shadow Moon (1995), Shadow Dawn (1996) and Shadow Star (1999). This trilogy is the continuation of the history of Elora Danan of the film Willow .

He is also the author of a trilogy of Science-fiction putting in scene Nicole Shea, a pilot woman of spaceship: First Flight (1987), Grounded! (1991) and Sundowner (1994).

The cinema

Chris Claremont is credited with the credits with the film X-Men 2 with Bryan Singer. It indeed took part in the writing of the history.
