Chris Chelios
Christos K. Chelios (born the January 25th 1962 with Chicago in the Illinois with the the United States) is an American player of Hockey evolving/moving at the station of defender for the Red Wings de Détroit in the National league of hockey. It received many prices during its long career in the LNH and is regarded as one of the best American players of the history. After the retirement of Mark Messier, Chelios became the oldest player of the LNH and after the retirement of Steve Yzerman, he became the player in activity having disputed the most matches.
Career
Chelios grew in California. It was fished out by the Canadian of Montreal during the Repêchage of entry in the LNH 1981. Before this fishing out, he played for the Canucks de Moose Jaw in the Ligue of hockey junior of Saskatchewan. After choosebeing chosen, he played two years for the Université of Wisconsin. In 1983, it was named in the All-Tournament TEAM and the second team of the stars WCHA. It made its beginnings for Canadian during the following season, playing twelve matches of regular season and fifteen in eliminatory series.In 1984, it was characterized by its play. In 1985, it was named in the team of the stars recruits. This year, it recorded 64 points in 74 parts, a superb score for a defender and 10 data points eliminatory with a differential of +17. Although playing only 41 parts during the season 1985-86, it gained its first Coupe Stanley, playing in front of the winner of the Trophée Idiot Smythe: Patrick Roy.
Two new good seasons followed, but Chelios really burst at the time of the season 1988-89. It registered 73 points in 80 matches with a differential of +35. It was named in the first team of stars of the LNH and gained the Trophée James Norris. After playhaving played only 53 matches the following season, it was exchanged, the June 29th 1990 with the Blackhawks of Chicago with a choice of fishing out of 2nd round against Denis Savard.
In its first season with Chicago, where it took number 7 instead of the 24 already carried by a fellow-member, it continued to mark its usual score of points, 64 this season, and was named in the second team of stars of the LNH.
After one season slightly less less impressive side points, it found the great form during the season 1992-93. It marked 73 points and gained the Norris trophy for the second time. In 1996, it will still gain it. It was the captain Blackhawks of Chicago of 1995 to 1999.
In 1994, at the time of the lockout of the LNH, Chelios plays for HC Bienne in the first Swiss division (NLA), but following a wound with the supply mains, he will play unfortunately only 3 matches.
From 1999, Chelios started to feel the weight of the years. At 37 years, its performances started to drop and it was not any more the offensive force and defensive which it had been. In 2004, because of the lockout , Chelios like its fellow-members Derian Hatcher and Kris Draper decided to play for the Motor City Mechanics, a team evolving/moving in UHL and based with Fraser with the Michigan. He was criticized for his decision because the UHL had maximum wages in its rules, but at the same time he was against a wage ceiling in LNH. In October 2004, it was involved with the American team of bobsleigh following the invitation to take part in the Winter Olympics of 2006 in the Greek team of bobsleigh.
The August 4th 2005, old defender the 43 year old signed one year of additional contract with Red Wings.
The 2006, Chelios was again named captain of the Olympic team of hockey of the United States (after 1998 at Nagano and 2002 in Salt Lake City).
The June 12th 2007, Chelios signed a one year old new agreement with the Red Wings de Détroit. It had 45 years in January 2007 what does of him one of the oldest player of the history of the LNH.
Chelios (after its retirement) is likely to join the Temple of famous hockey. Its 22 years of career showed that it was able to mark points and to defend. He also played with ardor, testify the 2803 minutes to them to penalty which he received. The combination of its offensive potential and its physical power enabled him to gain three Norris trophies. In all its career, he played 11 matches of stars and was named in 7 first or second team of stars of the LNH.
