Choisya ternata

Choisya ternata or orange tree of Mexico is an aromatic species of bush with persistent foliage of the family of the Rutaceae , originating in North America since the south-west of the the United States (Arizona, New Mexico, Texas) until the major part of the Mexico.

The species reaches between 1 and 3m. The sheets are opposite, brilliant, made up of several leaflets (3 in general). The flowers are in the star shape, from 3 to 5 cm in diameter, with 4 to 7 Pétale S, from 8 to 15 cheesecloth S and a green Stigmate They appear at the end of spring and summer. The fruit is a capsule.

The name of orange tree of Mexico comes from the resemblance of its flowers to those of the Oranger, at the same time by the form and the perfume. As for the scientific name of the kind, it was given in the honor of the Botaniste Genevese Jacques Denys Choisy (1799-1859).

Culture and use

It is a plant of ornament appreciated in the areas at soft winters, for its strongly aromatic sheets and flowers. The flowers, which produce a abundant nectar, are also appreciated by the Abeille S.
