Chloric acid
the chloric acid is a Acide which has as a HClO formula and whose combined base is the ion ClO chlorate - .
__TOC
Description
The chloric acid is oxyacid containing Chlore V. It is a strong acid and a powerful oxidant like its salts the chlorates. In basic medium it is thermodynamically unstable vis-a-vis its Dismutation in ion Chlorure and Perchlorate according to the reaction 4 ClO3- - > 3 ClO4- + Cl- but this reaction is slow. In the presence of reducers it can give toxic vapors of ClO2.
Synthesis
One can prepare ions chlorates by dismutation of ions hypochlorite following the reaction 3 ClO- - > ClO3- + 2 Cl-.
Uses
One uses especially salts of ions chlorate.-
the potassium chlorate is used like weeding total in particular to obtain ground alleys without any grass. Nevertheless, because of its character strongly oxidant, it is sold nowadays only into small quantitées and is mixed with other products. It is also used as oxygen conveyer in the matches and the device pyrotechnics.
-
the chlorate of sodium “the chlorate of soda” or Chlorate of sodium is used mainly for the generation of the chlorine dioxide (powerful oxidant used for the bleaching of the domestic paper pulp and Weeding. Added to sodium chlorate, salts of Vanadium reinforce its action weedkiller, whereas they are also used in Agriculture like fertilizing Oligo-éléments.
