The Chevrolet Corvette is a Automobile American famous, launched for the first time on June 30th, 1953 with Flint (Michigan). A prototype with the strictly identical lines had in addition been launched to the beginning of the year 1953 in Motorama GM, in the hotel Waldorf Astoria of New York.
The first Corvette comprised already many innovations: it was the first mass-production car from which the lines resulted directly from concept-because, and especially, it was the first mass-production car to have a glass fiber body ( fiberglass in English).
C1 (1953-1962)
The first Corvette. Named “straight-axle” by the initiates, remains indissociable image of America of the years 1950. 1953 - June 30th, the first Corvette is built. It is of color sports shirt white, and its interior is red. It is about small a Roadster 2 glass fiber places, equipped with one 6 cylinders Blue Flame Chevrolet of 150 horses. The year model 1953 will see being born exactly 300 Corvettes, all identical (except for the first models, which had hub caps of wheels resulting from the Bel Air).
C2 (1963-1967)
The second generation, indicated by Larry Shinoda under the stylistic direction of Bill Mitchell, launched in 1963 until 1967. The year 1963 will see the introduction of the new Corvette Sting Ray cut with its rear windows in two parts and of false grids of ventilation on the cap as well as independent back suspensions. The separate rear window will be removed in 1964 because of security issues as well as the grids of cap will be also removed. The power engine is of 365 cv in 1963 and 375 cv in 1964. In 1966 the corvette is available with an engine of 427 in ³ (7 L) creating the Corvette thus more collectionable of its history. The L88 version of this engine is officially estimated at 438 HP but of the external sources gave him more than 550 cv.
Only twenty Corvettes were marketed with this engine in 1967 and these cars can today reach more than 600.000$ US with the biddings.
C3 (1968-1982)
The third generation, inspired of the concept because of Chevrolet " Mako Shark" (indicated by Larry Shinoda), started in 1968 and finished in 1982. In 1969, GM increases the cubic capacity of their " small-block" to reach 350 in ³ (5.7 L), and in 1970 big-block 427 passed to 454 in ³ (7.4 L). The top of its power was reached in 1970 and 1971, with the LT-1 of 1970 giving 370 cv and in 1971 the 454 having its last year of power raised with 425 cv. In 1972, GM changed standard of measurement of power while passing from the large SAE with the SAE Net what changed the values of measurement. Addition has that the passage towards the fuels without lead, the emission standards of pollution and the catalytic converters, the power continued to fall until 1975 reaching 165cv with the basic engine and 205 cv for the L82 engine. Thanks to technological advances making it possible to reconcile antipollution and profit of power, the power will go up slowly during the remainder of the career of C3 finishing in 1982 with 200cv for the L83 engine. But rarest and most required is without the most powerful question, corvette ZL-1 of 1969 with the L88 engine of 427 Ci a power of 430 cv, engine which was taken again on the Chevrolet Camaro YENKO.
C4 (1984-1996)
The production of the C4 generation began with the production from the 1984 (it there have none production of the car year 1983, only of the prototypes), and having like motorization the engine of the 1982 (with 205cv) and lighting with injection called cross-country race-fire. The engine with lighting Tuned Port injection made its appearance since 1985. This generation will be produced until 1996 and will see several very required innovations and models. With for example the Pace Because of 1986, the ZR-1 of 1990, the 1988 35ème birthday very white (including the wheels), the GREAT SPORT of 1996 in version crossed and convertible (produced with height of 1000 units only (820 models crossed and 180 convertible). It is also interesting to note that the power passed from 200cv to more 330cv. It should be noted that version ZR-1 of 1990 had an engine developing 375cv. The total production of this generation amounts with some 330.000 specimens.
C5 (1997-2004)
Chevrolet C5 Corvette Engine V8 " LS1" any alloy. If it preserves a central camshaft and only two valves per cylinder, - which appear to us, with us European completion retrograde -, the remainder is shown perfectly in the page. And the result, bluffant: the answer to the accelerator is immediate with all the modes and the engine, which breathes better than the LT1, agrees to go up to 6.200 rpm (against 5.800 turns).
Characteristic:
V8 5.666 Cm3, 345 ch with 5.400 rpm, 497 Nm with 4.200 rpm until 2001 and 350 ch and 502Mn as from 2002;
Performances: 292 km/h, 400 m DA in 13.7 seconds, 1.000 m DA in 24.4 seconds; 0 with 100km/h 4.6sec.
Single degree of completion (Standard and Pack on half-compartment since the end of 1999);
Power-assisted steering controlled at the speed in series;
Consumption according to standards (urban/road/mixed), in liters, to the 100 km: 19,8/9,2/13,1 completely realistic of civilized use.
Option to be sought for a sporting behavior: limp manual 6 speed RPO NM6 and package sport RPO Z51 , including/understanding oil radiator of direction suspension to spring leaf larger as bars anti-roll larger more powerful diameter and brakes).
C6 (2005-?)
The conquest of Europe. It is the goal of this new Corvette, even nimbler and powerful that its elder. 2005 - C6 is launched. Shorter and narrower than C5, its footing lengthens however. With front, the headlights are not retractable any more but the back preserves the poop truncated with four large round fires. The floor is a “sandwich” made up a thickness of balsa taken between two layers of glass fiber. The great change is that the car does not carry any more the Chevrolet prefix, Corvette being now a mark with whole share in the group General Motors.
It is available in three versions:
- the LS2 and its V8 of 6 liters (driving Code LS2), available in Half-compartment or Convertible 404cv
- Z06 and its V8 of 7 liters (driving Code LS7) 512cv 657Nm
- the LS3 and its V8 of 6.2 liters (Driving code LS3) 430cv 586 Nm with the kit special exhaust 436cv and 592Nm This new V8 keeps a race identical and only its boring increases. The engineers sought a profit in the high modes. It should be specified that V8 in the past did not miss a couple.
