The chestnut tree of the Himalayas or horse chestnut tree is a Arbre of the family of the Sapindacée S, originating in the Indian Sous-continent, sometimes cultivated like ornamental tree.
Scientific name: Aesculus indica (Wall. ex Cambess.) Hook. (Synonym: Pavia indica Wall. ex Cambess.).
Note: the vernacular name horse chestnut tree can create a confusion with Aesculus hippocastanum or common chestnut tree which also has like second vernacular name horse chestnut tree : they are two different species well.
Description
The chestnut tree of the Himalayas is a 20 height meters tree approximately, with short trunk, sometimes ramified. The houppier is in the shape of high dome. The bark is gray and smooth.The null and void sheets, opposite, and made up-webbed, are formed from five to seven leaflets, lancéolée elliptic general form, at pointed end and finely toothed board; largest can reach 30 cm length.
The flowers of varied colors, pink, white and yellow or white and red, appear in June, grouped in Panicule S drawn up of 20 cm out of 8.
The Fruit is a ovoid capsule, containing only one large seed brown noirâtre luisante, flattened, 2,5 cm in diameter.
Distribution
This species is originating in the mountainous regions of the Indian Sous-continent: as well as Afghanistan.
Use
It is a tree planted for the ornament.This species is rustic under moderate climate.
