Chemillé is a common French, located in the department of Maine-et-Loire and the area Pays of the Loire.

Geography

Located on the road between Angers Cholet.

Distances: 30 min of Angers (37 km), 1:00 of Nantes, 20 min of Cholet.

History

With the crossroads of the future

Old fortified town with the the Middle Ages, Chemillé is built in Amphithéâtre on the edges of Hyrôme, tributary of the Tailboard. The old walls were destroyed at the time of the wars of religion at the 16th century, thus opening the city with the exchanges, with the Marché S which gave him its reputation of important shopping mall, role still reinforced by its situation of crossroads.

  • " Great shock of Chemillé" in 1793 (April 11th): defeat of Vendean by the Republicans. With the castle of Souchereau (Jallais) the Vendean general Stofflet was taken.
  • Incendié in 1793.
  • At the beginning of the 20th century was present hardcore careers, laundries, dyeings, spinning mills, tanneries, flour mills and weaving of fabric.
