Chechmate of the lion

The chechmate of the lion is more the possible small portion of failures, it makes only two blows. This part has especially an educational role: it shows the danger to push its pawns arbitrarily.

Course of the part

This part starts with: 1. g2-g4 e7-e5 2. f2-f3

The push of the white pawn G opens the Diagonale e1-h4, the white king being located in e1. As the push of the pawn E black made it possible to open the diagonal d8-h4 with the black lady, this one can thus move in a blow in h4 or it puts the black king in failure.

The white camp is then obliged to cover this failure. To cover a failure, a camp has three possibilities:

  • to capture the part or the pawn which put the king in failure
  • to interpose a part or a pawn between the part which puts the king in failure and the king (in the case of the Pièces with long range)
  • to move the king

Let us examine these three possibilities:

  • the black Lady can be captured
  • no part cannot interpose between the black Lady and the white King, nor even a pawn since they have already advanced
  • the king can move only in f2 where it would be always in failure
thus 2. … Dd8-h4 # (failure and chechmate)

Conclusion: the push g2-g4 was fatal with the white. In a general way, it is necessary to be very careful on the push g2-g4 or g7-g5 for the blacks if large the castling were not carried out, because if the king is in the center, the push opens the diagonal h4-e1 or h5-e8 and in the case of the king-side castling, that dislocates the structure of the pawns likely to protect the king.
