Sir Charles Wyville Thomson is a British Naturaliste , born in 1830 and died in 1882.
It takes part in three forwardings intended for study the underwater life of 1868 with 1870 and shows that the life is abundant with pronfondeurs whom one considered then incompatible with the survival of organizations. It off describes the results of its observations in The Depths the Sea (1873). It directs the scientific part of the forwarding '' Challenger '' which traverses more than 120.000 km around the world between 1873 and 1876. It is annobli on its return and is named director of the charged commission to study the specimens collected during this voyage. It makes appear in 1877 The Voyage off the “Challenger” .
One of the tops of the islands Kerguelen bears its name: the Mount Wyville Thomson (937 m), culminating point of the Ronarch peninsula.
