Charles Lacoste
Charles Lacoste , born with Floirac in 1872 and deceased with Paris in 1959. Wire of an accountant of Bordeaux and a creole mother , it recontre as of the college the future poet Francis James and Gabriel Frizeau large collector of Odilon Redon, Eugene Career, Monticelli, Rouault but also of Paul Gauguin with " From which do we come. .où go we… that we are? Its formation is that of an autodidact, of 1894 to 1897 it makes several important meetings: Andre Gide, Arthur Fountain, the brothers Rouart and the Type-setter Henri Duparc. Frequent stays in London will mark its vision of the nature of a misty melancholy. Refused at the Company of the friends of Arts of Bordeaux, it appears in public in 1898 with the Living room of the Feather re-examined which has just published its article " Simplicity in painting ". It settles in Paris and of 1901 to 1914 it exposes to the Independent ones. Founding member of the Living room of Fall, it also exposes to the Salon of Free Esthetics in Brussels in 1907 and Salon of the Golden Fleece of Moscow in 1908. By a process of simplification and a kind of wanted naivety, Lacoste faithful to the thought naturalist finds subjects of amazement or sometimes worrying daydream in the misty and winter atmospheres which make it possible the artist to simplify the forms reduced to undecided forms and to transfigure daily reality.
