Charles Domergue

Charles Domergue (Charles Antoine Domergue), born on January 5th, 1914 with Besancon, is a herpetologist, Naturaliste, Spéléologue, Géologue, resistant Ornithologue and French.

Biography

Charles Domergue furrows the countries of North Africa of the colonial Empire French to create Oasis until the independence of the Tunisia then of the Algérie. He becomes then Herpétologiste for the national Muséum of natural history of Paris then for the Institut Pasteur of Tananarive to Madagascar. He publishes many articles and works on his many subjects of predilections.

He has a son Claude Domergue, aviator born in 1944.

Dedications

The sub-genus Domerguella , gathering five species of geckos kind Lygodactylus , is dedicated to him.

For many naturalists, forest km No 32 in the north of the town of Toliara to Madagascar is known under the name of “Domergue Forest” in homage to its prospections on this remarkable site and to its action for its retention.
