Ceroxylon

The Ceroxylon belongs to the family of the Palmier S or arécacées. It includes/understands dioïques species, of intermediate size to large.

Classification

Description

  • feather-grass: They are solitary, smooth and reach variable sizes. Some can reach up to 60 meters. They often white and are encircled black rings, formed by the scar of the sheets. They are often thicker on the level of the medium of the trunk.

  • Sheet S: The sheets pennate and are divided into regular segments. The segments are inserted regularly in a plan, before becoming hanging at the ends, or, sometimes, inserted in different plans.
  • Inflorescence : The inflorescence occurs between the sheets, it ramifies from two to four times, with persistent Bractée S.
  • Fruit S: The fruits are small, round, smooth or rough, green, but turning to the red with maturity. The seed is globulous.

Habitat and medium

Their natural habitat is in South America. The species meet exclusively in the mountainous areas and tropical. 15 species push in the the Andes, of the Venezuela to the Bolivia, and in Ecuador, in a zone going from 900 to 3500 meters. Their rusticity is relatively good. Certain species being able to tolerate temperatures very slightly negative.
