Century of Polish gold
The Siècle of Polish gold corresponds at the time extending from the 15th century in the middle of the 17th century.
The Poland was then a wide and prosperous country. In the middle of XVIe century its surface was of 990.000 km ² and it counted approximately 11 million inhabitants. Poland was then the largest country of Europe and the principal supplier of food products (wood, corn, cattle…) in Western Europe where the requirement in agricultural resources was important. The craft industry was also in full rise and contributed to the expansion and the multiplication of the cities.
The economic advancement contributed in addition to a cultural rise rising from the influence of the Renaissance and the Protestant Réforme. It is before all the time of Copernic, founder of the heliocentric system and the theory of the foundation of the world. It is also the time of the political great writers and poets, contributing to the rise of the language, such: Andrzej Frycz Modrzewsk, Piotr Skarga, Jan Kochanowski, Łukasz Górnicki, Mikołaj Rej, Jan Dantyszek. Flourishing architecture leads to the establishment of a Polish Renaissance style.
On the international plan, the Republic (Rzeczpospolita) has a strong influence. Whereas the major part of the European countries is inserted in the absolute monarchy, Poland develops a mode of democratic based on the Nobility. The latter is representing it of the Nation and a parliamentary monarchy is founded.
