Center Pompidou - Metz

The Center Pompidou - Metz will be the first experiment of decentralization of a cultural public corporation, the National center of art and culture Georges-Pompidou of Paris. It will be located at Metz, in area Lorraine in the east of the France. The architects are Shigeru Ban and Jean de Gastines. The building owner is the community of agglomeration of Metz-Metropolis, in partnership with the town of Metz and the Center Pompidou.

History

The first stone was posed on November 7th, 2006. The center, which should open its doors in 2009, falls under a restructuring plan urban, engaged by Metz-Metropolis and the district of the Amphitheater. It is characterized by the construction of a new district entirely dedicated to the businesses, the trade and the dwelling, within a framework environmental high-quality (HQE).

In the Metz-native political world, much their hopes as for the positive repercussions post which the establishment of such a center in Metz would produce, in particular in term of tourism. Some compare already this future Center Pompidou - Metz with the Musée of Guggenheim of Bilbao and with its positive impacts on the town of Spain, hitherto ruined by the industrial crisis of the Eighties.

These positive repercussions for the town of Metz, chief town of area and principal city of one conurbation of 700.000 inhabitants (conurbation of Metz-Thionville), would come to revivify the important historical heritage of the Lorraine city. Metz in full revival, would become again a cultural crossroads in the middle of four countries of Europe.
