Catherine d\' Aragon

Catherine d' Aragon (December 16th 1485, Alcala de Henares (Castille) - January 7th 1536, Kimbolton Castle), infante of Castille and Aragon, was the girl of the king Ferdinand II of Aragon and of the queen Isabelle I {{Re}} of Castille

Catherine came in England in 1501 to marry, the November 14th 1501, with Arthur Tudor (1486-1502), oldest son of the king Henri VII, but Arthur died the April 2nd 1502. Become widowed, Catherine remained in England and, the January 3rd 1509, married with exemption of the pope Jules II, the new crown prince Henri, brother of its first husband, becoming, with title “consort”, Queen of England the April 21st according to, with died of Henri VII.

From its union with Henri VIII were born six children, whose only a girl survived, Marie (1516-1558), who became later the queen Marie I {{Re}} of England.

The king, dissatisfied not to have with male heir, repudiated Catherine in 1532 against the opinion of the Pape, which was directly at the origin of the schism of England and the creation of the Église Anglican. The cancellation of the marriage called commonly " divorce royal" (not existing divorce at the time) refused by the pope was pronounced by Thomas Cranmer, new Archevêque of Canterbury, and the king married the 1533 his mistress, Anne Boleyn. Catherine lives herself confined with the castle of Kimbolton, where she died in 1536, given up of all. Anne Boleyn, which had supplanted it, was decapitated the May 19th 1536.
