Castle the Dirty ones

History

The castle Dirty was the first residence of the family of Dirty to Thorens-Glières (Haute-Savoie), before this one did not settle in the Château of Thorens, located at a few hundreds of mêtres in against-low, with the whole beginning of the 17th century. It is besides in this same castle of Thorens, opened with the public since 1960, that the family of Roussy Dirty always currently resides.

The castle the Dirty ones would have been destroyed in 1630, on order of Louis XIII, during its invasion of Savoy. They were reprisals vis-a-vis the resistance which the count Louis de Sales had opposed to him, younger brother of saint François Dirty, captain-governor of the Château of Annecy. This one had indeed refused to deliver the castle of Annecy to the troops of king de France, ordered by the marshal of Châtillon (Gaspard III of Coligny).

In 1672, three nephews of Louis, whose Mgr Charles-Auguste of Dirty Prince-bishop of Geneva, build a vault on the ruins of the castle the Dirty ones, precisely with the site of the native room of François saint the Dirty ones. It was restored by the count François de Roussy the Dirty ones (1860 - 1943). It made add a vault in which were deposited ashes of its ancestors, buried formerly in the church of Thorens (vault holy Sebastien).

This vault is since then the necropolis of the family of Roussy the Dirty ones. The last count de Thorens, Jean-François de Roussy the Dirty ones (1928 - 1999), grandson of the count Francois, rests from now on in this vault near the majority of his ancestors.

The site is classified since 1982. The decoration of the vault in particular consists of a retable baroque of the 17th century. Opposite the vault, a cross indicates to the visitor the place where God inspired in François Dirty creation of the Ordre of the Visitation.
