Castle of Ners
The castle of Ners is with Allauch, a common French, located in the department of the Rhone delta and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.
history
The double wall of enclosure was built at the beginning of the 12th century by the bishop Raimond Ier (1073-1122) to preserve his rights of tolls. What it remains about it today deserves the term of ruins well. These ruins are also known under the name of Castèu-Vièi and of Castle of the Jeanne queen. If the first term is very evocative on the other hand no text does not allow to affirm that it was in possession of the Jeanne there queen or that she came to sleep but the legend is tough.
structure
We have a description detailed enough of the ruins towards 1877 which, extremely fortunately. On a nipple approximately 500 meters in diameter, at an altitude of 250 meters still draw up the vestiges of square towers and thick walls in ruins. A first tower comprised two stages: a curved door opens on the lower floor on a 6 meters length room arched on 2,75 meters broad (the raised ground of refuse measured 2,50 more meters height in 1877), with above the prints another similar room whose wall on the side missed completely. This part could have been attached to the remainder of the castle. A small internally widened window opens above the main door. This bay measures inside 0,90 meter height on 0,50 meters broad to reach only 0,60 X 0,10 outside. The Western wall as for him is bored of a broad opening. One finds also vestiges the one second old tower.
In the enclosure formed by the ramparts in ruins which were to connect the 2 turns defending the North-eastern and south-western angles brick up 3 walls from 4 to 5 meters height which would form the 3 sides of a building which appears to have been the Church. This church of Ners was dedicated to Saint Etienne and would have had baptismal font, which by regrouping explains, at the time, the importance of the places since towards the east one is in the presence of ruins of a long wall of approximately fifty meters, wall on which remainders of dwellings lean which would have been rather numerous.
