GnuLinEx is the Distribution Linux of the area of Estrémadure (Spain). It is not any more under development.
Presentation
History
The government of the area of Extremadure decided in April 2002 to give up Microsoft Windows in the schools and administrations and invested 300.000 euros in GnuLinEx and thus saved 20 million euros by installing gnuLinEx in the schools.Thereafter, the government of Andalusia was committed in April 2003 to support the free software in its administrations and collaborating in gnuLinEx (see Guadalinex).
Users
Since May 2003, 225.000 CD of GnuLinEx were distributed free, in particular via the local dailies, and 100.000 versions were downloaded on the site of the distribution. Approximately 20% of the inhabitants of Estrémadure would use GnuLinEx.
