August Christoph Carl Vogt was a Naturaliste and Médecin Suisse of German origin .

It was born the July 5th 1817 with Gießen, in Germany, where it studies the Médecine and the Chimie (under the direction of Justus Liebig) â the Université of Gießen. In 1835 it takes refuge with Bern, where his/her father, Philipp Friedrich Wilhelm Vogt (1787-1861), is professor of médicine). He studies the Physiologie and the Anatomie under the direction of Valentine.
After having obtained its diploma for the occupation of doctor in 1839, it will work with Neuchâtel under the direction of Louis Agassiz (1807-1873). It is there that it will be, in 1842, the first to attract the attention to the biological phenomenom of the cellular death programmed today known under the name of Apoptose, by studying the Nervous system under development and the metamorphoses of the tadpoles of the clamping plate obstetrician ( Alytes obstetricans ).
In 1845 it undertakes new studies with the Sorbonne and Nice. During its stay in France it meets Socialists like Pierre Joseph Proudhon, Karl Marx and Mikhaïl Aleksandrovitch Bakounine.

In 1848 he becomes professor at the University of Gießen thanks to the recommendations of Justus Liebig and Alexander von Humboldt.
