The cardiopompe (Ambu® Cardio-pump) is a device facilitating the thoracic compressions during the Réanimation cardiopulmonaire, appeared in the middle of the Années 1990. It is about a suction cup which one sticks on the chest, and provided with handles with an aim of carrying out a Cardiac massage improved.

Compressions are done while pressing on the handles, and decompression is done in an active way while drawing on the handles. This active decompression allows a pulmonary Ventilation and ensures better a venous Retour. The rescuer practitioner compression-decompressed them thoracic must be with knees on a folded cover, which raises it, thus compensating for the thickness of the device, and avoids pains with the knees.

If the benefit as regards circulation were proven, little of studies on the other hand a better rate of survival proved, and the effectiveness of the device is disputed (it is not however harmful). Several explanations were advanced:

  • the use of the cardiopompe is testing, it requires more frequent relays; the loss of effectiveness while resulting cancels the awaited profit;
  • circulation is “too effective” and makes move the clot (in the case of a Myocardial infarction), which makes random the method.
After a passion for this promising device, of many organizations cease using it.
