The Canadian federal election of 1867 is the 1st general election of the history of the Canada after the formation of the new country at the time of the Canadian Confédération. It is held August 7th with the September 20th 1867 in order to elect the deputies of the 1 {{E}} legislature with the House of Commons of Canada.

The Conservative party to sir John A. Macdonald gains a majority seats, as well as the majority of the votes in Ontario and with the Quebec. (The candidates presented themselves is under the banner of the Conservative party where Parti liberal-conservative). Quebec and Ontario had previously been plain in the Province of Canada, controlled by a liberal-preserving coalition directed by Macdonald and George-Etienne Cartier.

Officially, the Liberal party of Canada does not have a chief; however, although George Brown does not occupy any official station within the Party, he is generally regarded as the leader of the party in the electoral campaign, and would have probably been Prime Minister in the not very probable possibility of a liberal victory on Macdonald. Brown is presented simultaneously in the form of a candidate to the legislative Assemblée of Ontario and to the House of Commons and hopes to become Prime Minister for Ontario. However, he does not manage to be made elect with any of the two legislatures, and the liberals remain officially without chief until in 1873.

Before the confederation, the Nova Scotia and the New Brunswick did not have formalized liberal parties and conservatives. The various political groups in these two provinces thus unite with one or the other of the parties of the Province of Canada. The two provinces had a weak Conservative party. The opponents with the conservatives unite with the Liberal party of Canada, which collects the majority of the seats and the votes in the two provinces. In Nova Scotia, the opponents of the conservatives (and confederation) present as anti-confederated candidates , but sit subsequently within the liberal caucus.

Held elections the previous year in the Province of Canada, in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia had had as a principal stake to be linked or not to form a new federal country.
