Calpurnii

Calpurnius was the Nomen of a former plebeian family Roman, the people Calpurnia . The family legend reduced them from Calpus, third wire of the king Numa. The name of this family does not appear before the First Punic War, with the consulate of Caius Calpurnius Piso in -180.

The Cognomen S of this family, under the republic, are Bestia , Bibulus , Flama , and Piso . This last branch will be divided itself into two nicknames, Caesoninus and Frugi . The branch Piso will become one of the most famous families of Rome.

Family name left the name with two laws, the Lex Calpurnia and the Lex Acilia Calpurnia .
