Calixarene
A calixarene is a macrocycle resulting from the reaction of a phenol and a Aldéhyde. The calixarenes have hydrophobic cavities which can include small molecules or ions.
The calixarene term is the assembly of the words chalice (for the shape of vase that certain calixarenes adopt in a solid state) and of aromatic Hydrocarbure arena (for the aromatic cycles forming the walls of this vase). He was invented in 1975 per David Gutsche.
