Calamine
Calamine (in German Kelmis ) is a city of the German-speaking Communauté of Belgium, located at 5 km of Aachen and constitutes one of the 9 communes of German language belonging to the Walloon region.
At January 1st, 2004, Calamine had a total population of 10 144 inhabitants (4 950 men and 5 194 women). The total surface area is of 18,12 km ² what gives a Population density of 559,77 inhabitants per km ².
The territory around Vieille Mountain (mine of Zinc) was semi-indépendant between 1816 and 1919 under the name of neutral Moresnet . Kelmis belongs to the communes of the Cantons of the East which were attached to Belgium by the Traité of Versailles.
