Caius Nautius Rutilus is a Roman politician fifth century BC, wire of Spurius Nautius Rutilus of which nothing is known, brother of Spurius Nautius Rutilus (Consul in 488 av. J. - C.)
He is elected Consul in 475 with Publius Valerius Publicola. The Véiens and the Sabins return once again in war against the Roman République. His/her colleague is sent to the head of a Roman Armée to overcome the coalition, is reinforced by auxiliary Troupes of the Latin and Herniques, allied of Rome.
While Valerius Publicola beats two of the enemies of Rome to the doors of Véies, the Volsques and the Èques devastate the allied territories of Rome, of the Latin . The latter, supported by the Herniques, push back the plunderers and recover the spoils, without the Roman assistance. The Roman Senate, decides to send Nautius Rutilus to the head of an army against the Volsques, to prevent, according to Tite-Live, that the allied do not make to the war without troops nor general Roman. The Romains could not fight battle against the Volsques which are ravelled unceasingly.
A new war is declared by the Èques, breaking the peace treaties. The Tribuns of the plebs are opposed once again to the mobilization, with some successes.
It is sent against the Sabins, conducts a campaign flash and devastation their territory. His/her colleague as for him is taken of short, and finds himself besieged by the Èques. Nautius Rutilus is recalled to Rome but one prefers to name a dictator: Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus, returns in Triomphe, condemns Marcus Volscius Fictor, and abdicates in 16 days.
During this interval, the Consul Nautius Rutilus turns over to fight the Sabins carries a victory, putting an end to the war
