Cabinet of Canada

The Cabinet of Canada (or the Council of Ministers ) plays a big role in the Canadian government according to the Système of Westminster.

The Cabinet is the Council of Ministers chaired by the Prime Minister, and represents the higher level of the government. Technically, the Cabinet is a committee of the private Conseil of the Queen for Canada; but in practice, it is really about the steering committee of the Canadian government.

Composition

Twenty-seven Ministers for the Crown and ministers of state represent the current Cabinet formally. Each minister must not only advise the Prime Minister and the other Ministers for the Cabinet, but must also manage one or more wallets.

The Ministers for the Crown are generally chiefs of the ministry or the agency corresponding to their title; on the other hand, there are several exceptions. The stations such as Leader of the government in Room or President of the private Council of the Queen for Canada do not have any ministry corresponding, and other Ministers for the Crown (as the Minister for the International cooperation) are rather in load of an agency which exists in a ministry and which is already under the responsibility of a minister. Even if the Prime Minister can name with his Cabinet of the ministers without portfolio, this practice did not occur since 1978.

The ministers of state, often called ministers juniors , are responsible for tasks on a basis more ad hoc , and are often placed under the responsibility of a responsible minister. The stations are often created in a temporary way in order to fill a statégie in the short run of the government, without changing for as much the structure of the government. More recently, the Prime Ministers often named of the minister of state without their giving specific responsibility, which wants to say that they are indeed ministers without portfolio. Contrary to other governments of style " Westminster" , the ministers of state sit at the Cabinet, which wants to say that the Canadian Cabinet comprises more members than the British Cabinet. On the other hand the British Ministry, as a whole, is more numerous than the Canadian Cabinet. The Secretaries of State, who are ministers without sitting at the Cabinet, very often were delegated to responsibilities for minister of state of 1993 with 2003, because the ministers of state was far from numerous in the Cabinets of Jean Chrétien.

The parliamentary secretaries are named with the private Council, and answer the questions with the House of Commons when the responsible minister is not present. On the other hand, they are not members of the Cabinet and do not sit there.

The deputy ministers are neither of the Députés nor of the members of the Cabinet, but rather of the senior officials to the head of the administration of a ministry. They advise their minister on a basis not partisane.

Capacities

The Shadow cabinet

It is important to the Prime Minister to be presented to it because the governor general would not start without him. If Stephen Harper has the capacity all this would pass well while if it were with the Houses of Commons, there would be more financing to work above.

The current Cabinet

The Conservative party of Canada gained the elections of January 23rd, 2006. The Cabinet of the 28e ministry was sworn in the February 6th 2006 with Stephen Harper like Prime Minister of Canada.
