Călin Constantin Anton Popescu-Tăriceanu (* January 14th 1952, Bucharest, Romania -) is the Prime Minister in Rumanian exercise since the December 28th 2004.
He is member of the Parti national liberal and vice-president the group of the European Parti the liberals, democrats and reforming (or according to its English acronym ELDR ) with the the European Parliament.
Graduate of the technical Institute of construction water-supply engineering of Bucharest, Popescu-Tăriceanu is also titular of a mathematical master in and Informatique of the University of Bucharest. Between 1996 and 1997 he is Trade and Minister of Industry in the government of Victor Ciorbea. He is elected with the Rumanian House of Commons in 1996 as a representative of the capital. He is starting from 2000 the vice-president of the parliamentary group of the Parti national liberal and vice-president the Committee on Budgets to the House of Commons.
The July 7th 2005, Popescu-Tăriceanu presents the resignation of its government to the president Traian Băsescu after the rejection by the Rumanian Constitutional court of laws aiming at reforming the legal system. Nevertheless, the president for some time sought to cause anticipated legislative elections in order to consolidate his majority. The July 19th, Tăriceanu withdraws its resignation.
At the time of the international crisis related to the caricatures of Mahomet, Tăriceanu invites to the respect of the “religious sensitivities”, regretting the wave of violences in the Arab world.
