The hill was also called Mons Querquetulanus , bus of the plantations of oaks recovered it ( quernus means Latin oak).
In the division of Auguste in areas of the city, Cælius belonged to three areas: the Western and southernmost slopes were in the area I - Porta Capena , the principal part of the hill in the area II - Caelimontum , and the oriental party in the area V - Esquiliae .
The hill was abundantly populated during the République.
In 27 a. J. - C., the hill were severely touched by a fire, and became shortly after a district for the residences of the rich person, who, with their gardens, seem to have occupied a considerable part of the hill.
