Burriana (Castilian name , Valencian Borriana in ) is a common to the north of the Valencian community in Spain. It belongs to the Province of Castellón and more precisely with the district of Nules, in the Comarque of the Plana Baixa (Valencian name, Plana Baja in Castilian).

Geography

Burriana is on the coast of the Mediterranean in the part more the punt of comarque of the Plana Baja; it is surrounded by fields of Oranger S.

Burriana has 15 km of coasts punts, right-hand sides, belonging to the Costa del Azahar. The principal beach of Burriana, Arenal , is very broad, with fine sand and a weak slope.

One reaches this city, since Castellón, by taking the CV-18 or N-340.

History

Although one found in Burriana of the vestiges of various ancient civilizations, which enrich the funds by Municipal the Archéologique museum, the expansion of the city is around the 9th century as an important Arab place which accepted the name of Ciudad Verde (green city), for its situation in the middle of the plain. This fortified town, into the circular wall, was integrated into Christian Western civilization after its conquest by the king Jacques I {{er}} of Aragon in 1233. In 1348, the king Pierre IV of Aragon concedes the privilege to him to overload its Armes of a blue fringe and three crowns.

The demographic expansion of the village obliged the destruction of the walls, which were preserved complete until the 17th century. In 1901 the queen regent, in the name of king D. Alphonse XIII, concedes the title of city to him.

Economy

Its economy is based on agriculture where the culture of the Oranger prevails. Principal industry is that dedicated to the handling and the transformation of the Agrume S.

Religious monuments

  • Iglesia Parroquial de El El Salvador . This splendid church dates from the 13th century. Its Abside is of style Gothic primitive, with Romance elements; later, at the 15th century, one raised the tower bell-tower. At the 18th century (1762), one leant with the Gothic nave, the Capella of Comunió , decorated with Fresque S with J. Vergara. All this unit, was declared, in 1969, Monumento Histórico-Artístico Nacional .

Museums

  • Central of Arqueología Subacuática . It is devoted to knowledge, the conservation and the diffusion of the subaqueous archaeological inheritance of the Valencian Community.   • Muséeo Archivo of Naranja ( Museum of the Orange ). Single museum in its kind in Europe, dedicated to gather and make known the history of the Valencian and Spanish economy of citrus fruits. Festivals

  • employers' Festivals . Its owner is holy Blaise and one celebrates his festival on February 3rd, whereas its owner is the Virgen of Misericordia. In his honor, one celebrates one week taurine at the beginning of September.
  • the Fallas . There are 17 fallas, without counting the queen of the village and its court. These festivals have been celebrated for more than 75 years.

Gastronomy
