Bugesera
Bugesera is the name of one of the 7 districts of the Province of the east of the Rwanda. It extends from the southern limits of the Province of Kigali at the borders north of the Burundi, around the town of Nyamata.
In 1963, the area of Bugesera, unhealthy because of the presence of many marshes, was the place of deportation of Tutsi of north, survivors of the massacres ethnists which had broken in successive waves on the country since 1959. In 1992, the area was the theater of what was going to be regarded a posteriori as a general répétion of the genocide of 1994: false informations disseminated on the public antennas of Radio Rwanda caused massive massacres of Tutsi.
It is in Nyamata, in Bugesera, that Jean Hatzfeld collected testimonys of the victims and perpétrateurs of the genocide which it restored in his books the naked one of the life and One season of machetes .
