Brigach

The Brigach is one of the two brooks which meet by giving rise to the the Danube (the other is the Breg). Its catchment area extends on 195 km ².

It takes its source with 925 meters of altitude in the Black Forest with Sankt Georgen im Schwarzwald with the place known as Sankt Georgen-Brigach . The source is in the cellar of a farm which one can visit. It crosses then the small town of Villingen. With Donaueschingen, it has an underground course under the park of the castle and arises with the free air by what one indicates like " source of Danube". After 43 km it joined Breg and forms the Danube then. In fact, one considers that, from a geographical point of view, the true source of the river is that of Breg, a little longer, not far from Furtwangen.

There exists in German a " bridge-with-ânes" who allows to memorize the names of the two sources of the Danube:

Brigach und Breg
bringen die Donau zu Weg
i.e.:
Brigach and Breg
start the Danube.
