Brie-Count-Robert
Brie-Count-Robert is a commune of France, chief town of the Canton of Brie-Count-Robert.
The etymology of the name of the commune is double. Brie comes from the Gaulois briga , the plate, the height. The count Robert is Robert de Dreux, brother of the king de France Louis VII, which had the city at the 12th century.
The inhabitants are called the Briards , the Briardes .

History
Brie-Count-Robert is the old French capital of the Brie.
There are many traces of the time Gallo-Roman and the Moyen-âge, as well as traces of burials to the site of the cemetery of the city.
In 1136, the king of France Louis VI the Large gives the seigniory of Brie to his/her son junior Robert Ist This one made draw up a first tower and adds then a keep to protect Paris (the city is to 25 km of the capital).

Brie-Count-Robert is located in edge of the plate of the Brie.

Tourist monuments and places
The Saint-Etienne church
Built at the 13th century under Robert II of Dreux, it is dedicated to holy Etienne, first martyr of Christendom. Of Gothic style, it comprises a rosette of the 13th century to the top of the chorus, superb sculptures and woodworks of the 15th century; outside its propping up are decorated of Gargouille S, and a tower supplements its frontage. Its arrow, which dominates the city, can be seen with kilometers on the plate of the Brie.
The castle

The castle remained in the family of Dreux until 1254, then passed in the family of Châtillon. By successive dowries and heritages, it échut with Marguerite d' Artois then with her daughter Jeanne d' Évreux.
Jeanne d' Évreux, who held the châtellenie of Brie-Count-Robert by heritage, became the wife of the last direct king capétien, Charles IV the Beautiful one. With died from this one (1328), it profited from comfortable incomes (douaire royal sitted on many strongholds in Brie and Champagne), which enabled him to devote important sums to the maintenance and the improvement of its own possessions, of which Brie-Count-Robert. The castle became a residence of prestige where all the large lords of the kingdom, in particular the dukes of Burgundy, did not hesitate to remain. One saw there, also in 1349, the marriage of Philippe VI of Valois and White of Évreux-Navarre, niece of the Jeanne queen.
The lady of Brie made, in particular, arrange the residence seigneuriale luxuriously located against the south-western, south-eastern curtains and the especially North-East. It made build a vault dedicated to Denis saint, joined with the Midsummer's Day tower, and draw vast pleasure gardens. Jeanne d' Évreux died in the castle in 1371, at the 69 years age.
At the end of the 14th century, the castle returned to the royal field, then with the family of Orleans.
The Hospital
Like all the hospitals, it was a bond of rest for the merchants and travellers crossing the city; it was probably built at the 13th century. A recent building was rebuilt by respecting the Gothic frontage of style, with seven arches. The place was used as hospital for the patients and the needy ones, then of convent. It was again used as hospital during the First World War. Today it is used as showroom.
Park François Mitterrand
The park François Mitterrand is a vast park located at five minutes of the center town. It has two ponds, 1 wood, 3 large grounds with lawn and a stage of foot. It is the place of walk of the inhabitants of Brie-Count - Robert who can practice VTT there and stroll. It accommodated the 14th European festival of the kite.
The Green path
The green path is a long dirt track 10 km and connecting the commune of Brie-Count-Robert and the commune of Coubert. It was created on the old railway which connected the station of Bastille to Verneuil-l' Étang
The station
Brie-Count-Robert was served a long time by the Ligne of Vincennes, which connected the station of the Bastille to Verneuil-l' Étang. Today, this one was taken again until Boissy-Saint-Leger by the RER has, and the platform which supported the line of Limeil-Brévannes with Brie-Count-Robert was partially taken by the South-eastern LGV. At the time of the opening of this line, one had planned to create a station TGV with Brie Count Robert, but this project was abandoned. Village halls
The burnt village hall
Drama of October 29th, 2003, fire was declared in the village hall. Or rather, by stupid play, it was voluntarily put at the dustbins stored behind its latticed doors. The fire was quickly propagated with the whole of the building.
The town of Brie-Count-Robert thus did not have any more a village hall. The demolition was carried out as soon as possible. Today there is a carpark in the place of the old village hall, the carpark of Bienfaites, just beside the place of Stadtbergen.
The new village hall
Safran , new village hall, is made up of:

- a room of 490m ² with scene, directly accessible by outside, of a capacity of 500 people and adapted to the conferences, spectacles, concerts…
- a small room of 246,3 m ², is 250 places, for less important demonstrations.
- a glazed big space of 519 m ² with or without podium, to accommodate meal, cocktails, exposures…

Medieval festival
The town of Brie-Count-Robert puts at the colors the Middle Ages. Several companies present spectacles of street and of music, troubadours survey the streets of the old city as well as fire-eaters, waders, jugglers and magicians falconers. Gravers and taverns animate the center town, thus recreating the environment of popular holidays of the time. Sunday, a medieval procession with all the troops is held on the place of the Market before leaving the place to the ball.

A European festival takes place annually with the Parc François Mitterrand, accommodating cervolists of the whole world.

Organized by the tourist office and also by the town of Brie-Count-Robert, this very great festival commemorates the pink.
