Bridel

Bridel is a mark of dairy products: milk, butter, cream-coloured (“Bridélice”), it belongs today to the group Lactalis.

History

  • 1846 : Opening of a butter factory by Jean-Louis Bridel , the grandfather of Emile Bridel with Martigné-Ferchaud, in Ille-et-Vilaine.
  • In the years 1960 the seat is moved with Retiers, in Ille-et-Vilaine.
  • 1966 : The factory of the Hermitage takes again, in Ille-et-Vilaine created in 1911 and which belonged before to the Union of the butter factories of France.
  • 1968 : Diversification by the creation of a abbattage subsidiary company of the bovine meat with Chateaubriant, in Loire-Atlantique.
  • 1975 : Begins again part of the activities of the family Lanquetot (Camembert), the totality of the activities will be taken again only at the time of the repurchase of Bridel SA by Besnier.
  • 1979 : Closing of the cheese dairies of the " Large Bouillants" (mark Lanquetot with Vern-on-Cuttlefish in Ille-et-Vilaine).
  • 1981 : Bridel SA absorbs the Lanquetot mark.
  • 1990 : Repurchase of the group by the group Besnier (currently Lactalis).
Key figures of the group at the time of the repurchase: 2300 paid, 10 factories, 4th dairy group French, present in 60 countries, 5,5 billion Francs of turnover (approximately 850 million euros).

Founder

Emile Bridel is the creator of the mark, he was born in 1913 with Martigné-Ferchaud, in Ille-et-Vilaine, it was an owner emblematic whose Lactalis group tries to use the name like marks with whole share. He yielded the company to the Besnier group after a dissension with his Olivier son.

Others

The seat of the subsidiary company is located at Bourgbarré (Ille-et-Vilaine).
