Breton continental

This article treats the Breton ones on the continent of Europe. See also the article devoted to with the Breton islanders .
The continental Bretons are originating in the island of Brittany (current Great Britain), from where the Roman request then the pressure of new arrivals will force them to move.
As from the 3rd century, the Romans call upon quotas gradually the Breton ones to protect the coasts and particularly the Armorique from the raids of the pirates Germains.
At the 5th century, the Angles, the Saxon Jutes and the , Germanic People come from the continent, force the people Celtes of the family Brittonique to settle in the west (Wales) and the south (Cornouailles) of the island. Raids of Gaels, come from Ireland, start an important migration towards Armorique where they settle massively. Armorique or Létavie took later on the name of Brittany. It should be noted that groups essaimé in all the west of the France, and that some were to settle in current the Île-de-France.

At the time contemporary, the “Breton” term indicates, not only the natives and the residents of the area, but also any person who asserts the Breton cultural identity.
