The breathing is the exchange by diffusion of carbon dioxide (CO2, called sometimes, in an unsuitable way “carbonic gas”) and dioxygene (O2, or “oxygenates” in the language running) between an organization and its Environnement. It feeds the dioxygene cells and expels body the Carbon dioxide resulting from the cellular Respiration. When the organization reaches a certain volume, this exchange requires specialized surfaces. These surfaces can be on the level of the Peau (Cutaneous respiration), on the level of the Branchie S (breathing branchiale), of the Poumon S (pulmonary respirations) or at the end of the Trachée S of the Insectes (breathing trachéolaire). The respiratory exchanges are done in air medium or aquatic environment.

The breathing consists of a transfer of molecules (mainly O2, CO2) in several stages and under several states (see State of the matter).

In the language running, the term “breathing” indicates the action of the Poumon S, which in medicine and biology names pulmonary Ventilation.

Biochemical aspect

A breathing is a feedback path of Oxydo-réduction in which the final acceptor of electrons is a mineral substance. One speaks about aerobic Respiration if the final acceptor is Dioxygène. In the other cases (Nitrate, Nitrite, Carbon dioxide), one speaks about anaerobic Respiration.
