Biography

Andre Raimbourg, alias Bourvil (or Andrel during the " Débâcle" , with Arzacq in June 1940, and in 1941-beginning 42) forever known his/her father, killed with the Great War little before its birth. He passed all his childhood with his mother and the new husband of this one, a farmer named Ménard, in the village of Bourville (which inspired its name of scene to him). He married Jeanne Lefrique (1918-1985) the January 23rd 1943 with which, he had two wire:

After a training of baker, it left in Paris region to try a musical career, which it began with Radio-hook S. Jeune artist in search of success, it settles with his wife, with Vincennes in a tiny apartment of the street of Dairy to the seventh under the roofs (It will remain there until 1947).

It then connected with numbers of “comic-peasant” (derivative of the Comique troupier), but it is with the song the Pencils that its career really began in 1945. It is besides with this song that it made its first appearance with the cinema, in 1945 in the Farm of hung of Jean Dréville.

He died in 53 years of the disease of Kahler (multiple Myélome), and rests with Montainville (Yvelines), village where he had his country house.

He is sometimes indicated by the name of “ André Bourvil ” besides (there exists a “Theater Andre Bourvil” with Paris, XI {{E}} district). It is under this name that it appears with the credits and the poster of the last but one film which it turned, the red Circle . He thanked Jean-Pierre Melville, the realizer, to have mentioned his first name thus.

Its last film, just turned after the red Circle , was the Atlantic Wall . These two films left some weeks after its death.

Jeanne Lefrique, his wife, born in 1918, died the January 26th 1985 in an car accident whereas it went Paris to Montainville on the tomb of her husband. They are both buried with the communal cemetery of Montainville in the Yvelines.

An actor of the kindness

The comic play of Bourvil rested mainly on roles of nice, sometimes a little animals or naive, as the roles which it held vis-a-vis energetic the Louis de Funès: the character incarnated by Bourvil always arrives, by his kindness, to not only make laugh, but also to escape machiavelic handling of the characters interpreted by Funès.

Bourvil however held of the more dramatic roles, like the odd-job man in the Christmas tree . In this role, he sees the relation between a young sick boy and his father, of which he is the servant. In this film as in comic films, the spectator can be easily identified with the character played by Bourvil, because it is a simple man. One can also quote his role of Thénardier in the film adaptation of the Misérables , or his last but one role, that of a police superintendent in the red Circle .

Bourvil was a very cultivated man. His/her friend Georges Brassens, become his neighbor with Montainville, entrusted that he was perfect the honest man, way 17th century and suggested readings to him. It shared with Brassens an encyclopedic knowledge on the song française.
He knew also Jean-Paul Sartre and one thought of him for the Comédie-Française.

Today, there remains a reference for many artists. François Morel and Antoine de Caunes in particular carried out a portrait of him in March 2005 within the framework of the television program on most famous of the French through the centuries when it arrived in 7th position, pledge of a very great popularity, 35 years after its disappearance.

Roles and works

Bourvil received the price of the best actor of the festival of Venice (the Volpi Cut) for its role in the film the Crossing of Paris (according to the work of Marcel Aymé). Complete actor, it chose on several occasions roles treating of subjects of company, in particular by coproduisant films with Jean-Pierre Mocky ( the City of the Inexpressible Fear or the Great Fun , the Large Detergent …). He also ensured the doubling of his English films.
