Bourtzwiller
Localization and general information
Bourtzwiller is populated the most of the 16 districts which compose the town of Mulhouse. It is bordering on 3 communes: Pfastatt in the west, Kingersheim in north and Illzach in the east.
Short history
Until 1947, Bourtzwiller was only one simple borough of the northern suburbs, connected to Mulhouse by the Pont of Bourtzwiller spanning the Doller. This commune was already characterized by its center of village with its public place, its church and its trade, its factory of mechanics in the south, its district of working houses in south-east, its district of middle-class houses in the west. In 1947, the independent commune is incorporated in the town of Mulhouse, and the old place of the village is renamed for the occasion “places Fastening”. Then follow a whole series of “great work” which at the same time will allow a spectacular increase in its population and will raise physical barriers between this district and its neighbors of Mulhouse and Illzach. On half is old communal round of applause, are built many multifamily apartments (ZUP), but these great units are found cut
- of the remainder of Mulhouse by the construction of a highway in the south (A36),
- of the common neighbor, Illzach, by the construction of one fast track in the east (D430).
Geographical organization
The urban landscape of this district became very contrasted:
- in the west and north, the historical residential habitat primarily made up of houses and small buildings forms a continuity with the communes bordering.
- in the center and the south, an axis industrial and tradesman, primarily made up of house of city, and irrigated by the line n°1 of the tram is in direct link with the downtown area.
- in the east, the typical collective residential habitat of the years 1950 to 1970, and commonly called " BZ" for B ourt' z' willer, suffers from enclavement: in the east a fast track separates it from the commune bordering on Illzach, in the south a river and a highway separates it from the remainder of Mulhouse.
