Bourbonne-the-Baths

Bourbonne-the-Baths is a common French, located in the department of the Haute-Marne and the area Champagne-Ardenne.

History

Bourbonne draws its name from the Gallic god Borvo, related as the goddess Damona to the source whose benefits already known and were thus used by the Gallic ones, within a religious framework. The Romans build thermal baths and many the Ex-voto found in Bourbonne testifies to the importance of the worship which was practiced there.

Baths are regularly quoted among the incomes of the lords of Bourbonne.

A large fire devastates Bourbonne on May 1st 1717, but the opening in 1735 of the royal Military hospital, then the construction of a hydropathic establishment starting from 1783 marks the beginning of the great period of hydrotherapy with Bourbonne, which was still supported by the arrival of the railroad at the end of the 19th century and by the construction of a new hydropathic establishment between 1977 and 1979.

Economy

  • For 2000 years one has used thermal springs of Bourbonne and the Thermalisme is the main activity of the city: the hydropathic establishment accommodates approximately 11  000 curists per annum, from March to November.
  • As in addition Bourbonne has a local Hôpital (Gérontologie, functional Rééducation) the professions of health are very represented, with many Médecin S, Kinésithérapeute S, nurses, and three Pharmacie S.

  • industry is represented, with a manufacturing plant of windows, a workshop of settees, a sawmill, and many craftsmen of the building carry on their activity in the sector of Bourbonne.

  • Some farms practice especially the dairy breeding.

12/27/1972: the communes of Genrupt (52215) and Villars-Saint-Marcellin (52527) are attached to Bourbonne-the-Baths.

  • the museum includes/understands:
    • a part Archeology which contains many found old vestiges with Bourbonne: two Gallic heads carved out of wood, of the votive and funerary steles Roman, and of many Gallo-Roman objects.
    • a painting part, especially devoted to painters of whom resided at Bourbonne: Jules-Claude Ziegler, Rene François-Xavier Prinet, Clement Serveau and Georges Fréset.
