Botz-in-Mauges
Botz-in-Mauges is a common French, located in the department of Maine-et-Loire and the area Pays of the Loire.
Its inhabitants are Botzéens, Botzéennes.
Geography
Located on a plate, the commune of Botz-in-Mauges is bordered by three rivers: the river of the Evre in the west, the brook of Touchette in north and that of Saint-Germain in the south.
In the east, the commune is delimited, in the absence of brook, by natural elements like hedges. The main axis of communication crossing it connects Varades to Cholet.
History
The territory was inhabited as of prehistoric times since one found cut stone tools. During the Middle Ages the communal territory was divided into two parishes, Saint-Gilles and Germain, who depended on the abbey of Saint-Florent-the-Old.
The history of Botz-in-Mauges was marked by the Guerre of the Vendée where Botz was in the middle of the conflict. Many monuments point out this period, in particular beside the park of Cauldron where a commemorative plaque was placed, beside a column, for the memory of died of this insurrection.
Botz had as of the end of the 19th century a factory of mills to be been windy, the winnowing machines (Vanneuse), being used to clean the grain.
The commune, Botz, changed name into 1919 to be called Botz-in-Mauges.
