The border free-Switzerland is the Frontière separating the France and the Suisse. It extends on 573 km, in the east of France and the west of Switzerland.

Characteristics

It begins with the tripoint Germany - France - Suisse (), located on the communes of Weil-amndts-Rhein (Germany, Land of Bade-Wurtemberg), of Huningue (France, Département of Haut-Rhin) and the town of Basle (Swiss, canton of Basle-City).

The border follows then an head office towards south-west through the Massif of the Jura, to the surroundings of Geneva. It then circumvents the city before joining southern bank of the Lac Léman on the level of Chens-on-Léman (France) and Hermance (Swiss). The border passes then coarsely in the middle of the lake during about fifty kilometers, before joining bank on the level of Saint-Gingolph (France and Suisse). It then takes an head office towards the south through the the Alps.

It finishes in the south with the Tripoint France - Italy - Swiss (), at the top of the Mont Pare (: 3820 m of altitude), on the Common Frenchwoman of Chamonix-Mount-White (Department of Haute-Savoie), the Common Italian of Courmayeur (Valley of Aoste) and the Common Switzerland of Orsières (Canton of Were worth).

The border separates eight Swiss Cantons (Basle-Countryside, Basle-City, Geneva, the Jura, Neuchâtel, Soleure, Valais and Vaud) from three French areas (Alsace, Franche-Comté and the Rhone-Alps) and five departments (Ain, Doubs, Haut-Rhin, the Jura, Haute-Savoie and Territoire of Belfort).

The layout was modified several times, for example so that the Aéroport of Geneva is in Switzerland, or that the border passes more meadows of the customs between the Swiss Autoroute A1 and the French Autoroute A401.
