Blackburn Aircraft Limited was a British manufacturer of planes who concentrated on the production of planes intended for the navy.
History
The origin of Blackburn comes from Robert Blackburn who built its first plane in
1908. The
Blackburn Airplane & Motor Company was created in
1914. A new factory was born with Brough in
1916. With the acquisition of Cirrus-Hermes in
1937, Blackburn started to produce engines of plane, the range Blackburn Cirrus. The company changed name with the acquisition of
General Aircraft Limited into
1949 and took that of
Blackburn and General Aircraft Limited . Starting from
1958, the company was again re-elected in
Blackburn Aircraft Limited . In
1960, with the rationalization of the British manufacturers of planes, the company was absorbed by
Hawker-Siddeley, and in
1963 the name Blackburn disappeared completely.
