La ewe Noire of Velay is a race Ovin E Frenchwoman originating in the area Auvergne.

Origin

Cette race is one of the oldest known ovine race, very rustic, raised by the Celtes. It seems to be arrived to France towards 1500 av J.C when the Celtic tribes settled in the Massif Central.
Formerly named Black of the Baths in connection with the municipality of the Baths, the race underwent many crossings which caused to impoverish qualities of the species.

Since the Years 1970, an important work begun with the Puy-en-Velay, said " redéveloppement" , is carried out by the stockbreeders and thus giving this name of Noire ewe of Velay.

The Black one of Velay is visible in the majority of the mountainous regions of France, without to count large herds (100 heads surroundings).

Morphology

Aptitudes

C' is a robust race, particularly adapted to the rough grounds and the difficult pastures of access. The Noire ewe of Velay is also known for its production of Agneau to " against-season ". Its reproductive qualities are used in the renewal of the Cheptel or in Boucherie.
